What to Wear for Your San Diego Engagement Session

Wondering what to wear for your engagement photos? You're not alone—it's the question we get most. Here's how to look and feel like yourselves in front of the camera.
Coordinate, don't match
Pick a palette of two or three complementary colors rather than identical outfits. You should look like you belong together, not like a uniform.
Choose soft, neutral tones
Earth tones, creams, soft blues, and muted shades photograph beautifully against San Diego's coast and gardens. Avoid tight patterns and big logos, which distract from your faces.
Dress for the location
A flowing dress moves beautifully at La Jolla or on the sand in Coronado; smart-casual looks suit downtown and Balboa Park. Bring two outfits—one dressy, one relaxed.
Comfort wins
Wear shoes you can walk in, especially on cliffs and beaches, and bring layers—evenings on the coast get cool. If you're comfortable, it shows.
Still unsure? We'll help
We give every couple wardrobe and location guidance before the shoot. See our engagement gallery for inspiration, or book a session.
