Sunset Cliffs Wedding & Elopement Photography Guide

With dramatic bluffs, sea caves, and some of the best sunsets in California, Sunset Cliffs is a stunning spot for an intimate San Diego wedding or elopement. Here's how to plan it.

Timing is everything

Aim to say your vows about an hour before sunset, so your ceremony and portraits land in that warm golden light. Check the sunset time for your date and build the timeline backward.

Know the rules

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a public space—small ceremonies are popular, but check current City of San Diego permit requirements for groups, chairs, or arches, and always leave the bluffs as you found them.

Dress for the terrain

The cliffs are uneven and can be windy. Bring shoes you can walk on rocks in, and consider a dress that moves well in the breeze for dramatic photos.

Pair it with video

The waves and light at Sunset Cliffs are made for film—ask about adding videography to your coverage.

Plan your cliffside day

We photograph elopements and weddings across the San Diego coast, including La Jolla and Coronado. See pricing or check your date.
