The Best Time of Year for a San Diego Wedding
May 20, 2026 · San Diego · Wedding Planning · Inspiration
One of the perks of marrying in San Diego is the weather—there's truly no bad season. But each one has a different feel, and as photographers we see how the light and crowds change month to month. Here's our honest take.
Fall (our favorite)
September through November brings warm, golden light, smaller crowds, and comfortable temperatures. The late-day sun along the coast is hard to beat for portraits.
Spring
March through May is lush and green with wildflowers and mild days—beautiful for garden venues and Balboa Park sessions.
Summer
June through August is peak season: long days, warm evenings, and reliable sunsets. Book early—the best dates and venues go fast.
Winter
December through February stays mild and is the best value, with lower venue pricing and dramatic, moody coastal skies.
A local tip: 'June Gloom'
Early summer mornings can bring a marine layer (overcast skies) that usually burns off by midday. It's actually gorgeous, soft light for photos—we plan around it so it works in your favor.
Whenever you choose
Whatever season you pick, we'll plan your timeline around the best light. View our wedding work or check your date.
